Alcoholism in Nairobi slums

ASJ09-AlcoholismDrinking, mostly because of idleness, unemployment or stress, is a dangerous activity. Deep in the slums of Nairobi we saw many drinking joints. Changa’a, the illicit brewing often mixed with chemicals to make the consumers drink more, has led to many blinds and deaths. The government imposed the Alcohol Drinks Control Act 2010, but even after the introduction of this ‘Mututho’ law the efforts proved futile. People in the slums still sip their favourite tipple.
